Ultra-Cool Learning Tool: Magnifying the Universe

A friend of mine recently sent me a link to one of the coolest web sites I’ve seen in a long time.

It’s called “Magnifying the Universe” – and it does exactly what it describes. You can click on the link I’ve embedded below or the site link here.

Take your computer mouse and click on any of the nine categories listed to begin, then click on the blue ball along the timeline on the bottom of the screen.

Move the mouse to the right to zoom in all the way to see a the components of an atom or move the mouse to the left to speed past a visual catalog of things ranked by size (e.g. bacteria, giraffes, buildings, mountains, planets, solar systems…etc) all the way out to the observable universe.

This is one of the coolest learning applications I’ve seen, it’s completely kid-friendly – and they’ll love it (assuming they even get a chance to try it because you’re likely to love it too!!!)

Q: What’s the coolest online app you’ve found that’s kid friendly and educational?

I just got Peterson’s Guide to Birds. My granddaughters love hearing the calls as well as the pictures. It was only 99 cents last week because of Earth Day. Don’t know if the sale is still on.
