>World Vision is my favorite charity organization, and my wife and I support several children throughWorld Vision because we believe in its mission and execution. This faith-based group is committed to helping people around the globe and more than $0.85 out of every dollar goes directly to providing aid – in other words WV has low overhead and the donations they receive are directed toward the areas of greatest need.
Specifically, World Vision provides a host of funding options for education; food supply; medical needs; clean water; reliable shelter; micro loans for economic development as well as clothing. This last point of clothing comes from creative donations, such as the one afforded by the NY Jets after Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship game.
In the picture below, provided courtesy of http://www.tmz.com/, the Jets management donated thousands of pre-printed hats and shirts to World Vision.
Don’t let the photo fool you – the Jets lost the AFC Championship game. But marketers pre-print winning collateral material for both teams in big games to ensure quick sale should either team win. According to the TMZ story the Jets gear will be sent to several countries in need along with similar pre-printed merchandise from the loser of the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 6th.
In the interest of full disclosure, I’ve been a life-long Steelers fan and don’t like the loudmouth Jets’ coach Rex Ryan – but I applaud the gesture by the Jets organization and the NFL with this donation. They could have just as easily thrown the clothes away and written it off as a loss, but they chose a more noble path. And to that I’ll cheer – go J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!
