This is a guest post from an online writing buddy of mine, Chad Jones. We both belong to a blogging group called the Killer Tribes - it's not as violent as it sounds. Chad is a talented writer, you can read his work over at Randomly Chad. Below is his satirical look at the upcoming presidential election through the lens of The Lord of the Rings. I'm sure the powerful, yet geeky, Mithril lobby in DC will do back flips over this post! [NOTE: You may have to crack open that dusty … [Read more...]
12 Marathons in 12 Months for Wounded Soliders
I've known Eddy Horn for about 5 years, but we didn't become friends until he and I started training for my first full marathon back in 2009. This photo shows him and me after we finished that race together in the pouring rain. We've since run a couple of races together, but he has gotten much faster than me and I can't keep up with his pace. Additionally, the number of full 26.2 mile races he's completed thus far is climbing through the teens while I'm lagging with six under my … [Read more...]
Running for My Life…
I've written several times here about my training and completion of six full marathons over the past three years. The photo insert is my most recent finish from last year. During that time, I've learned a lot about myself through running. Here's a post I wrote about 10 Life Lessons I've Learned From Marathon Training. One of the reasons I love running is because of it's similarities to writing. Both are challenging disciplines that require time, attention and practice. I believe that … [Read more...]
Book Review: You Are a Writer… by Jeff Goins
Jeff Goins is a friend of mine and he gave me an advance copy of his latest work titled, You Are a Writer (So Start Acting Like One). Don't let the "in-your-face" title throw you, Jeff is a super nice guy who has been a professional writer for a long time and achieved more success than most writers I know. In other words, he knows what he's writing about. This book by Jeff reminds me of a quote by Benjamin Franklin, "Either write something worth reading or do something worth … [Read more...]
If Pinterest Was For Dudes…
I recently signed up for an online course that provided a basic introduction to Pinterest. If you're not aware of what Pinterest is, it's the third-largest and fastest-growing social media platform on the web. It's kind of like a living mashed up visual montage of Better Homes & Gardens, Food & Wine, Parenting, Style and People magazines blended with the Oscars red carpet plus a dash of baby shower with a healthy dose of Silpada jewelry all drizzled in chocolate. Given that … [Read more...]
Is Facebook a Better Parent Than You???
Many people use Facebook to stay in touch with out-of-state family members. For instance, some folks think it's cute to let there kids, who are younger than Facebook's required mimimum age of 13 years old, have a page to communicate back and forth with grandparents. And that's fine if a parent is monitoring the content and establishing appropriate parental blocks. I'm not telling people how to raise their kids, but I will raise awareness regarding some startling Facebook statistics that … [Read more...]
5 PR Tips for Pro-Athletes Who Say They Love Fidel Castro
Today, I have an article featured on Technorati.com. The first time I heard about Technorati was years ago, and I thought it was a site for new gadget and gizmo reviews - it's not. Technorati is an Internet search engine that's designed specifically for blog writers. By June 2008, Technorati was indexing 112.8 million blogs and more than 250 million pieces of tagged social media. However, beyond merely mapping the blogosphere - Technorati also has a corral of writers whose content … [Read more...]

A Great Leader Remembered and Honored
Tomorrow is a public memorial service for Watergate figure and prisoner-rights advocate Chuck Colson. Here's an excerpt from an article I wrote that's featured today on CNN iReport. =========================== There are two things that well-mannered, civil individuals are never to bring up in mixed conversation – politics and religion. Former White House aide, convicted felon and founder of the non-profit Prison Fellowship, Charles (Chuck) Colson, apparently missed that particular … [Read more...]
