[EdiTOR's Note: This is a re-post of something I wrote earlier this year, but I'd like to extend the offer once again.] For the past two years or so, I've been writing five days a week for my blog, The Daily ReTORt. During that time I've had the privilege of guest posting on dozens of great blog sites including heavy hitters such as: Michael Hyatt, Jon Acuff, Jeff Goins, ProBlogger, Ron Edmondson and Bryan Allain - to namedrop a few. The writing benefits I've gleaned from guest posting … [Read more...]
Women Speak More Goodly Than Guys
The headline of this blog post shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone, in fact the best communicators I’ve known in my professional and personal live have all been the fairer sex – just ask my wife. In fact, the past 14 or so years that I’ve been in corporate communications all of my bosses have been women - and they've typically been some of the best communicators within the various organizations. That fact comes to bear in two studies I recently read. The first was … [Read more...]
Avoiding Cyber-Monday Scams
I don't know about you, but I'm an unrepentant self-admitted Cyber-Monday shopper. I simply prefer the convenience of shopping online for the holidays compared to the crowds and hassles associated with Black Friday which I try to avoid like the Black Plague. However, online shopping does have its own pitfalls - identity theft, computer hacking and compromised debit cards are just a few. Here's a useful infographic from the folks at Veracode that offers some insight into how consumers … [Read more...]
Has iPad Finally Jumped the Shark?
During the late 1970s and early 80s the most popular show on television was ABC's "Happy Days." The Cunninghams and Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli were members of the family - until Fonzie jumped the shark - literally. The phrase "jump the shark" relates to the episode during the series' twilight when the cast went to Hawaii and the daredevil Fonzie had to water-ski jump over a shark tank for some contrived sense of honor. After that point, critics and viewers all but abandoned the … [Read more...]
What Kind of Kids Are You Raising?
Today’s guest post comes courtesy of an online writing a of mine, Joanna Hyatt. Based out of Los Angeles, Joanna speaks and writes on dating, relationships and sex. She blogs at www.joannahyatt.com and tweets @JoannaHyatt. If you’d like to submit a guest post yourself, here are the guidelines. I’m part of the Millenial Generation. We’re half kids, half adults. Allowed to ‘explore’ and ‘find ourselves’ for as long as it takes, we avoid relational commitment, … [Read more...]
The Vision of Faith
This past weekend I saw a powerful locker room speech delivered by NFL head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Chuck Pagano. The set-up for the video below is important - so bear with me. In January, Pagano took over the leadership roll of the hapless Colts who managed to win only two games last season and lost 14. Their star quarterback Peyton Manning sat on the bench recovering from a series of neck surgeries. During the off-season, the Colts traded Manning and recruited college … [Read more...]
Sometimes Curses and Blessings are Neither
I learned a lot from my grandfather growing up, including the single most important lesson in my life - which I wrote about here. However, another profound insight he gave me, that I continually lean on as an adult, is this following bit of wisdom: "Things are not as bad or great as they first seem." Those 11 words are packed with profundity and truth that I see proven on a regular basis. I recently read a fable that perfectly articulates my grandfather's statement, which I'd like to … [Read more...]
