Book Review: You Are a Writer… by Jeff Goins

Jeff Goins is a friend of mine and he gave me an advance copy of his latest work titled, You Are a Writer (So Start Acting Like One).

Don’t let the “in-your-face” title throw you, Jeff is a super nice guy who has been a professional writer for a long time and achieved more success than most writers I know.

In other words, he knows what he’s writing about.

This book by Jeff reminds me of a quote by Benjamin Franklin, “Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.”

Jeff expertly weaves both the writing and doing in this digestible and actionable tome that strips away all your excuses.

He offers clear direction and guidance for the beginner, as well as encouragement to the veterans.

All I can say is, don’t put your fingers to your keyboard without it!

It is really good, isn’t it Tor. I really enjoyed the first 40 pages or so that specifically spoke about becoming a writer. It literally recapped a conversation I had with Jeff not that long ago.

Absolutely – it’s pretty amazing because he successfully encapsulates the feelings and insecurities of every writer I’ve ever known – it’s a gutsy book!

You are gutsy too Tor! Writing about one of the scariest moments ever for a father takes more courage than I can dream of!!!!

Hi Tor, I’m catching up (as usual) on my blog reading. Thanks for the review of this book. I’m downloading it to my kindle. The title sounds like something my friend, Rob Swanson, would say. Love it.

Seems like an interesting book; I think the title is very catchy. I would probably read it if I ever happened to run across it once it’s released. I’m assuming it isn’t released yet since you said it was an advanced copy. I’m always looking how to improve my writing so that I don’t end up being a hypocrite when I find that others’ writing annoys me. Yours, by the way, is excellent. :)
