This week our 10 year old daughter began mandatory sex education classes.
I wrote about how my wife and I prepared her for that information in a post titled A Father’s Worst Fear – Part II.
The reality of the information and what she didn’t know forced our hand as parents.
That got me thinking about the information that we as parents don’t know.
The biggest gaps in my knowledge as a parent are texting phrases and instant messaging (IM) shortcuts that teens and preteens are using these days.
Neither of our daughters has a cell phone, but that discuss is likely to occur in the next few years. In preparation for that day I’ve been researching questionable or inappropriate texting terms that others may try to send our girls.
A few months ago I wrote a post about 20 Troubling Texting Phrases Every Parent Must Know.
Since then I’ve continued to cobble together other texting terms and IM phrases to equip parents to effectively protect their kids. Here are the 10 latest that I’ve found which have been confirmed by the resources at NetLingo, again some of these are a bit shocking and are not appropriate for younger readers:
1. ADR – Address (home)
2. CD9 – (Code 9) – Parents are around
3. GNOC – Get Naked On Camera
4. GYPO – Get Your Pants Off
5. HAK – Hugs And Kisses
6. IWSN – I Want Sex Now
7. J/O – Jerking Off
8. KPC – Keeping Parents Clueless
9. MF2F – Meet Face-to-Face
10. 143 – I Love You (each number represents the number of letters in each word)
Again some of these terms are troubling, yet it’s the responsibility of parents to inform themselves about what their kids are likely to experience.
Question: Are there any other terms you’ve found that are not on this list? Are there other sites that you’ve found with relevant texting information that you’d like to share?
